Your Motorcycle Questions Answered
Do you offer Rental Bikes?
For The Baja Ride 2024 , we have upped our game and now offer turn-key options for our customers. We offer rental of brand new Baja-prepped 2024 Husqvarna FE501s bikes. Check out web store for more details. We do not rent bikes for No Wimps in Baja.
Will we have to Swap Tires During the Ride?
For the No Wimps ride, a new set of tires will last the entire event. For The Baja Ride, we highly recommend ordering tires and mousses for the halfway point. As always, we will be transporting tires and mousses for you to change at the end of Day 4 or 5. No spare wheels or tires mounted on rims will be transported. All halfway change tires and mousses will be ‘use it or loose it’ when we reach Cabo, we will not be returning unused tires or mousses after the ride.
Do I need extra tires if I rent a bike?
Your rental bike will be delivered to you at the start of the ride with new tires and mousses. This is included in the rental fee. If you want to change either tires or mousses at the halfway point, you must order them through our webstore.
Which tires do You Recommend?
Dunlop has been a vital sponsor of the ride since the very beginning and continues to support our efforts. But that’s not why we use Dunlop tires. We have found that the Dunlop AT81 RC is the best tire for Baja…period. We do not recommend the 110 size rear tire for any bikes 350cc or over. Please do not show up to the start of the ride with used tires. At our discounted price, there is no reason you shouldn’t start with new tires!
Do I have to Run Tire Inserts?
We do not support tubes on any of our rides and we guarantee the quickest way to ruin your ride is to deal with flats. Foam inserts are the only way to go and they must be installed by someone who knows what they are doing (Malcolm Smith Motorsports can do this for you). We highly recommend Nitro Mousses .
Is motorcycle insurance needed?
Mexican auto insurance is required for all vehicles in Baja. This includes your vehicle AND motorcycle for the duration they are in Baja. As in the USA, liability only is the bare minimum but full coverage policies can be purchased. We recommend Baja Bound or Discover Baja for insurance policies. It is very easy to purchase online here: www.bajabound.com or www.discoverbaja.com
Are maintenance supplies provided (oil, filters etc)?
Yes, for The Baja Ride oil and chemicals are generously sponsored by Maxima and free of charge to all riders. For all of our rides maintenance parts for most late model KTM/Husqvarna four strokes are available for purchase. We carry some repair parts for late model KTM/Husqvarna four strokes as well. All bike maintenance is the responsibility of the rider, unless you purchase our optional maintenance plan.
Will we need to change oil during the ride?
The Baja Ride riders are allotted one free oil change and we recommend changing the oil at the halfway point. No Wimps in Baja does not require an oil change. Basic tools, chemicals and spare parts are available from the support truck
Do we need a new air filter for each day?
Plan on bringing 2-3 prepped air filters. All bike maintenance is on your own, no one will be washing or prepping air filters for you, unless you purchase our optional maintenance plan.
Will I Need to Purchase Fuel?
Yes, you will need to take care of some of your fuel throughout the ride. Plan on buying 6-10 gallons of gas each day at $4 - $10 per gallon (depending on location).
How many miles will my motorcycle need to go on a tank?
The minimum fuel range needed is 120 miles between fuel stops (most daily fuel ranges are 80- 100 miles). If you are unsure if you can make this mileage then I suggest carrying extra fuel or purchasing a larger fuel tank. DO NOT MISS GAS STOPS! Even if you think you can make the mileage, fill your bike completely full at every opportunity. You never know when you will take a wrong turn and do some extra credit mileage.
